2019 AFC West Preview

The Chiefs Are Tops while the Chargers Could Nab Wildcard Two

Our AFC West Preview 2019 likes Kansas City’s chances this season. At the same time, this AFC West Preview 2019 observes that the LA Chargers have a lot to offer. Still, it will be hard for them to match the Chiefs’ offense. The Denver Broncos need to find a few things, including a quarterback who can deliver and consistency on defense. Finally, the Oakland Raiders look to be as weak as can be. Las Vegas is on the horizon, as the Raiders move to Sin City in 2020. Here’s a peak at how we expect the AFC West to end up in 2019.

AFC West Preview 2019 – Teams

Denver Broncos

First-year head coach Vic Fangio will have two basic choices for the quarterback spot- veteran Joe Flacco or rookie Drew Lock. There’s also fourth-year QB Kevin Hogan waiting in the wings. If Flacco can find his old form, the Broncos will win some games. After all, the Broncos do have productive running back and dual-threat Phillip Lindsay. Plus, Denver possesses a fine defense that includes the dynamic LB trio of Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, and Todd Davis. However, even if all of these elements fall into place, a weak O-line and transitioning D-line could hamper the Broncos in 2019.

Kansas City Chiefs

It’s all about offense with the Kansas City Chiefs. QB Patrick Mahomes makes things happen as does WR Tyreek Hill, TE Travis Kelce, and RB Damien Williams. The O-line is good enough too. More good news, as the defensive line appears to be solid and should be an asset. Plus, the secondary has been upgraded through free agency and the draft. However, the linebacking group lacks depth, and there are a lot of new faces on defense, which could affect that side of the ball. Still, despite some challenges, we do like this Kansas City football team.

LA Chargers

Our AFC West Preview 2019 observes that Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers is one of the most consistent performers and accurate passers in the NFL. In addition, Rivers has a slew of accomplished pass catchers to toss to, including veteran WR Keenan Allen. Add to that a rush attack led by Pro Bowler Melvin Gordon III, and you’ve got an offense with great potential. Plus, the Chargers are very solid in each of the defensive areas. This team is also coming off of another strong draft, which should pay some dividends in 2019.

Oakland Raiders

What can we say about the Oakland Raiders? In 2016, they looked like perhaps they had arrived as the team earned a wildcard berth. But in 2017, they won six games and in 2018 four games. QB Derek Carr has to show that he is this franchise’s quarterback. At the same time, the underperforming rush attack must put up some real numbers. The defense and special teams are both lacking, making it especially difficult for this team to register more wins than losses forget about making it back to the postseason.

AFC West Preview 2019 – Prediction

Our AFC West Preview 2019 projects that the Kansas City Chiefs and LA Chargers will battle it out for first. The second-place team will take down the wildcard. Who finishes first? We like the Chiefs. Second place should go to the Chargers. Both teams are very solid on both sides of the football. After that, we like the Denver Broncos due to their rigid defense. Finally, look for the Raiders to bring up the rear in this AFC West 2019Preview.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs
  2. LA Chargers (Wildcard)
  3. Denver Broncos
  4. Oakland Raiders
