PointsBet Launches in Virginia

The Australian-based company PointsBet received the green light to launch in Virginia with the partnership with Colonial Downs LLC. Virginia became the eighth state where PointsBet launched its betting platform.

Sports betting in Virginia is nearly at the one-year anniversary mark as the sports betting market launched back in January 2021. Bally Bet, Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM, BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, Golden Nugget, Unibet, and WynnBET are the other ten operators that have established a market in the state.

Johnny Aitken, PointsBet USA CEO, stated;

Colonial Downs is the only gaming firm that operates and is headquartered in Virginia. PointsBet has two partnerships to its advantage to have the marketing edge to get potential bettors to join the platform. In August 2020, PointsBet extended a partnership with NBC Sports as the company has numerous digital and marketing assets.

NBC Sports provides regional coverage for the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards. This will certainly boost the average betting volume, especially with the NFL, NBA, and NHL progressing through their regular seasons.

PointsBet will also be expanding its reach by integrating the exclusive partnership across NBC Sports Regional Networks. PointsBet’s Spanish-language functionality offers a new target demographic for the company, especially reaching Hispanic sports fans that use Telemundo Deportes and Telemundo broadcast stations.

PointsBet also teamed up with Genius Sports in October 2020, which uses its live-streaming platform to provide game and live data coverage for those who are interested in placing live wagers at any point in a game.

Colonial Downs operates Rosie’s Gaming Emporiums in Richmond, Hampton, New Kent County, and Vinton. The company also owns Colonial Downs Racetrack, which is located in New Kent County.

Users of the mobile app will be able to earn ten percent of their cumulative wagers in terms of free bets during the month. This promotion will be sectioned off into a five-tiered system.

Wagering $500 in cumulative wagers will get users a $50 free bet; betting $1,000 in cumulative wagers will earn users $100 in free bets. $2,500 in cumulative wagers will get users a $250 free bet, $5,000 in cumulative wagers will get a user a $500 free bet, and lastly, $10,000 in cumulative wagers will land users a $1,000 free bet.
