FanDuel Sets a New Record in New York

FanDuel Sportsbook has long been the leader of online sports betting in the state of New York, and it just recently set a new record. For the week ending on September 10th, the online sports betting giant posted a total revenue of $32.3 for the week, which is the highest ever on record.

The New York State Gaming Commission has continued to provide weekly updates on sports betting numbers, but this is the first time that an operator has ever gone over $30 million in revenue in just one week.

It should come as no surprise that the huge numbers came during the first weekend of NFL action, as that provided a boost to the entire industry. For the state of New York, the sports betting revenue came in at $56.6 million for the week.

While this wasn’t a state record for weekly revenue, it was the second-highest total ever recorded. Compared to the first weekend of NFL action in 2022, New York saw a jump of more than $8 million this year.

Not All Sportsbooks See Jump

While FanDuel put up some historic numbers for the first full weekend of September, other online sportsbooks were not as lucky. BetRivers, Resorts World Bet, and PointsBet all had less action during the first weekend of NFL action than what was reported the previous week.

Resorts World Bet saw the biggest negative change as the total sports betting handle fell by more than 15%. While the other two operators saw a decrease of less than seven percent, that’s still a shock with the return of NFL football being played.

WynnBET Sportsbook is having a really tough time in the state of New York, and this company could be looking to leave the market altogether. This was the second straight week that WynnBET actually suffered a loss in the total revenue, and it might help the company make the decision to leave.

NFL Remains King

New York was not seeing a huge decrease in overall betting action throughout the summer, but that was definitely the case in other states. The return of the NFL did provide a huge boost to the entire sports betting industry, and some states are likely to post handle and revenue records when the September betting reports are announced.

The total sports betting handle in New York for the first weekend of NFL action was up over $416 million. This total represented a 33% increase from the previous week, and there was also a 26% jump year-over-year.

FanDuel Sportsbook not only led the state in terms of revenue, but it also had the highest total handle at $195.5 million. While that number is extremely impressive, it still fell way short of the record that was set by Caesars back in 2022 when the operator posted a weekly handle of $229.7 million.

New York continues to be the biggest sports betting market in the United States, and there really isn’t a close second.
