Saturday July 4th Rocket Mortgage Classic 3rd Round Betting Matchups

Host of Players in the Running in Detroit

July 4th Rocket Mortgage Classic 3rd round betting seems to be shaping up like the RBC Heritage a couple weeks ago. 15 golfers went into Sunday within 3 strokes of the lead in that tourney. After two rounds at Detroit GC there are 10 golfers in the -10 to -12 range.

Webb Simpson is one of those co-leaders and he’s the +250 live favorite to win the weekend. Chris Kirk also sits at -12 but oddsmakers seem to be expecting him to fall of the pace at +1400 to win it all. Here’s a look at some matchups in July 4th Rocket Mortgage Classic 3rd round betting.

3rd Round Matchup Bryson DeChambeau (-115) vs. Webb Simpson (-115)

The most interesting pairing for July 4th Rocket Mortgage Classic betting has to be Bryson DeChambeau vs. Webb Simpson. Oddsmakers are calling this one a split with both golfers listed at -115. DeChambeau comes into Saturday’s round just a stroke back from Simpson, who leads the tournament at -12.

DeChambeau has finished in the top 8 in all three tournaments since the PGA restart and was the pre-tournament favorite to win in Detroit. Simpson has been able to finish though, winning the RBC Heritage in his last tournament. Dechambeau shot -6 on Thursday despite three bogeys. Simpson is on a roll though hitting 88.9% of greens in regulation.
Pick: Simpson -115

3rd Round Matchup Doc Redman (-135) vs. Kevin Kisner (+105)

Doc Redman would seem to be the value play in his Saturday matchup with Kevin Kisner even at the price of -135. Redman is a stroke back from Kisner at -9 after Saturday’s 70 though. Redman did shoot a -7 65 on Thursday and finished runner-up at this event last season.

Kisner might be a tough beat though. He also shot -7 in the first round but both golfers had 4 bogeys on Friday. Kisner minimized the damage with an Eagle on 6 though. Kisner is smoking the ball with an average drive of 305 but Redman has hit 86% of the greens in regulation. It’s a true toss-up, so you take the better payout.
Pick: Kisner +105

3rd Round Matchup Brendon Todd (Even) vs. Harold Varner III (-130)

Brendon Todd was in the hunt last week at the Traveler’s but a horrible final round 75 pushed him down to an 11th placed finish. Todd was magical last Saturday shooting a 61 so does he have another outing like that in him? Todd is matched up with Harold Varner III for Saturday’s wagering as both golfers come into the weekend -7.

Varner was done in by a double-bogey at 14 on Thursday but he still finished a respectable -5. Varner III is hitting 82% or better in both fareways and GIR. Todd on the other hand is hitting only 71.4% of fareways and is also being outdriven by Saturday’s opponent. Have to like the chalk in that regards.
Pick: Varner III -130

End of 3rd Round Leader

Simpson (+250) and DeChambeau (+275) are the overwhelming favorites to take the lead going into Sunday. Co-leader Chris Kirk (+700) has some value in this wager after scoring a birdie on 6 of the first 9 holes on Friday. Ryan Armour (+1600) is also just a stroke off the lead at -11 following yesterday’s -8 round.

The dark horse play in this one is Richy Werenski at +1800 though. Werenski has hit 82.1% of his fairways and is rolling along at an 83.3% of GIR. Throw in an average drive of 305 through the first two rounds and Werenski has the wherewithal to make some noise on Saturday.
Pick: End of 3rd Round Leader Richy Werenski +1800
