NCAAF Week 10 MAC Buffalo at Ohio Betting Preview

MAC-Tion Returns This Week

It’s November 1st which is getting close to the end of the college football regular season. While that is a sad thing to note, it also means that MAC-tion returns with Mid American Conference football during the week. Tuesday’s MAC Buffalo at Ohio meeting features two of the top three teams in the East division.

Both the Bulls and the Bobcats are 5-3 on the season, with Buffalo having a 4-0 record in the conference and Ohio being right behind them at 3-1. The Bulls have rallied back from an 0-3 start to rattle off five wins in a row while Ohio has won four of their last five, with their lone loss over that span coming in OT. Both of these squads are playing well, but oddsmakers have the Bulls tagged as -3 point road favorites.

Should Buffalo Be a Road Favorite Here?

The Bulls are 4-0 in conference play and bring a five game win streak overall into Tuesday’s MAC Buffalo at Ohio matchup. Buffalo comes in with momentum, but also in a dangerous letdown spot after their 34-27 victory over Toledo in week 8 as +7.5 home underdogs. Both the Bulls and Ohio had a bye last week so they are fresh for the Tuesday matchup.

Oddsmakers finally seem to be coming around on the Bulls who were just a 4-8 squad a year ago. The Bulls kicked off conference play as a +6 point underdog at Eastern Michigan but picked up a 50-31 win to start this successful MAC run. Buffalo has scored at least 34 points in four of their last five games and have the #3 scoring offense in the conference (30.9) to go along with the #2 scoring defense (24.8).

Ohio Throwing the Ball All Over

The #1 thing opponents have to do when playing the Bobcats is to stop their passing game. Ohio QB Kurtis Rourke is completing 68.5% of his throws this season, is averaging 301 yards/game, and has 16 TDs to just 3 INTs. Ohio is the #2 scoring team in the MAC (32.0 ppg), but the #1 passing team in the conference (14th in the country) with 308.5 ypg.

The best conference passing team that Buffalo has played this season is Bowling Green (6th) and the Bulls defense held BGSU QB Matt McDonald to a 21/42 day for 281 yards with 1/1. Last week against Northern Illinois Rourke was 14/26 for just 200 yards, but he also had 2 TD passes and another 7 carries for 64 yards (24-17 W) so he’ll be the best player on the field on Tuesday night.

Home teams have gone 14-8 in the MAC East division this year with the top four teams being 11-3 on their own field. That makes it a little bit interesting that Buffalo is a road favorite in this spot (despite their undefeated conference record) and thus a whopping 63% of the betting public is taking the points. That seems to be the way to go in this one, with Rourke and the Bobcats passing game being a top 15 unit in the nation and Ohio holding opponents to 15.5 ppg the last two.
