Atlanta Falcons vs Buffalo Bills – NFL Preview – Oct 13, 2025

The Buffalo Bills head to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for a Monday Night Football matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. Kickoff is set for 7:15 PM ET on October 13, 2025. Buffalo enters the game at 4-1, leading the AFC East after a close loss to the Patriots last week. Atlanta sits 2-2 in the NFC South, coming off a bye week and looking for its first win streak of the year.

Oddsmakers have Buffalo as a 4-point road favorite (-110) with a total of 50.5 points. The Bills are listed at -210 on the moneyline, while the Falcons sit at +170. The last time these two teams met was in 2022, when Buffalo won 29-15. This matchup features one of the NFL’s best offenses against one of the top defenses through the first month of the season.

ATL Preview – Defense Setting the Tone

Atlanta’s defense has been one of the league’s best stories so far. Through four games, the Falcons rank first in total yards allowed (244.0) and lead the NFL in pass defense (135.0 yards per game). Under defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, this group has found a new identity, playing fast and tackling well. The secondary has held opposing quarterbacks to a 75.8 passer rating and just 57.7% completion rate, both top-five marks in the league.

Up front, the Falcons are giving up only 109.0 rushing yards per game and are forcing teams into long drives. Linebacker Kaden Elliss and safety Jessie Bates have been strong in coverage and run support. A.J. Terrell’s return from a hamstring injury is a major boost against Buffalo’s deep receiving corps. However, Atlanta will be without Darnell Mooney and several depth defenders, which could test their depth late in the game.

On offense, rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. continues to improve, throwing for 857 yards and five touchdowns through four starts. His connection with Bijan Robinson in the passing game adds balance to an offense averaging 23.0 points per game. Robinson has totaled 482 all-purpose yards and will be key to controlling tempo. If Atlanta’s defense can limit explosive plays, the home crowd could give them an edge in a close primetime matchup.

BUF Preview – Top-3 Offense on the Road

Buffalo comes in with one of the most efficient offenses in football. The Bills average 395.8 yards per game (3rd in the NFL) and lead the league with 30.6 points per contest. Josh Allen is playing at an MVP level again with 1,217 passing yards, 9 touchdowns, and just 2 interceptions through five games. He’s also added 212 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns, continuing to be a dual threat that few teams can contain.

The Bills’ run game has been the foundation of their balance. James Cook and Allen have combined to push Buffalo to 154.4 rushing yards per game, the second-best mark in the league. Their offensive line has been effective, allowing just 1.6 sacks per game. The receiving group led by Stefon Diggs and Dalton Kincaid gives Allen multiple options across the middle and downfield. Kincaid, however, remains questionable with an oblique injury, and Curtis Samuel is limited with neck and rib issues.

On defense, the Bills continue to be opportunistic but enter this week banged up. Linebacker Matt Milano is out with a pectoral injury, while safety Damar Hamlin and rookie defensive tackle T.J. Sanders were both placed on injured reserve. Buffalo has allowed 21.5 points per game, ranking 15th, and will rely heavily on its pass rush to disrupt Penix Jr. The Bills are 2-3 ATS and 3-2 to the Over, showing they’ve been involved in some high-scoring contests early in the season.

Key Matchups and Trends

The key matchup is Buffalo’s passing attack against Atlanta’s top-ranked pass defense. The Falcons allow just 135 passing yards per game and will challenge Allen to sustain drives without deep shots. Atlanta’s defense ranks top-five in third-down efficiency, so Buffalo may lean more on the run game to keep the chains moving.

For Atlanta, the challenge will be keeping Penix upright against a Buffalo front that averages nearly two sacks per game. The Falcons’ offensive line has been solid but hasn’t faced a unit with this much pressure potential. Buffalo ranks top-10 in both QB rating allowed and yards per play on defense. The Bills have also started fast, averaging 7.6 first-quarter points per game, while Atlanta has struggled in second quarters.

Betting-wise, the Bills are 7-3 in their last 10 games overall but only 5-5 against the spread. The Falcons have split their four games both straight-up and ATS. The total has gone Over in three of Buffalo’s five games, while Atlanta games have leaned slightly Under (1-3 O/U). The Covers score projection has Buffalo winning 27.5 to 26.3, suggesting value on Atlanta +4.5 and the Over 49.5.

Betting Prediction

This sets up as a tight primetime matchup. Atlanta’s defense is legit, but Josh Allen has consistently performed well in night games, averaging over 275 passing yards per appearance since 2022. The Bills’ offensive balance should help offset Atlanta’s coverage schemes, and their experience in close road games gives them the edge. Expect Buffalo to lean on Cook and Allen’s mobility to sustain drives and wear down Atlanta’s front seven.

The Falcons should compete early and keep it close into the second half, especially if Robinson finds space on the ground. However, the Bills’ explosive offense and depth at receiver may prove too much as the game progresses. Predicted score: Buffalo 27, Atlanta 20. Buffalo covers the -4, and the Under 50.5 looks slightly stronger given both teams’ defensive ranks and injury lists.

Pick: Bills -4, Under 50.5
