New York Yankees vs San Diego Padres – MLB Preview – May 5, 2025

The San Diego Padres begin a three-game series against the New York Yankees on Monday night at Yankee Stadium. The game is set for 7:05 PM ET and is part of San Diego’s nine-game road trip. The Padres beat the Yankees 5-2 in their last meeting on May 26, 2024.

San Diego is 8-7 on the road this season and has won four straight away games. New York has hit 37 of its 57 home runs at home and will look to stay strong at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are trying to bounce back from a close loss to the Rays on Sunday.

Yankees Preview – Judge Keeps Producing

New York is 5-7 in its last 12 games. They’ve scored at least 11 runs in two wins during that stretch but have also lost seven games by two runs or fewer. Their offense has been up and down, with strong games followed by quiet ones.

Aaron Judge is the key player right now. He has reached base in 30 straight games and has a 14-game hitting streak. Judge is hitting .474 over that streak and has been carrying the offense.

Pitcher Carlos Rodon will start for New York. He has a 4-3 record with a 3.43 ERA this season. Rodon has been solid lately, going 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA in his last three starts.

Padres Preview – Road Trip Starts Strong

The Padres just swept the Pirates on the road. They have allowed only five runs in their last three games and ended the series with a 4-0 shutout win. Their team ERA on the road is 4.15 compared to their overall mark of 2.75.

Nick Pivetta will start for the Padres. He is 5-1 with a 1.78 ERA but has not done well against the Yankees in his career, going 1-4 with a 6.99 ERA. Judge is 5-for-18 against him.

Manny Machado is hitting well right now. He’s 8-for-21 over his last five games and had three hits in the last game. Xander Bogaerts drove in three runs in the final game of the Pirates series, and Fernando Tatis Jr. is back in the lineup after a hit-by-pitch scare.

Betting Prediction

The Yankees are -138 favorites with a total set at 7.5 runs. With Rodon in strong form and the Yankees at home, they should have the edge. However, Pivetta’s hot streak could keep it close early.

Expect a tight game, but the Yankees’ offense at home and Judge’s form make the difference. A low-scoring game is likely if both starters pitch deep. Yankees should win a close one, around 4-3.

Pick: New York Yankees -138

This is a battle of two of the best teams in all of Major League Baseball. The Padres out of the National League and the Yankees out of the American League. We expect this to be a great baseball game, and an awesome series. When push comes to shove though – take the Yankees on Monday!
