MLB Wednesday June 8th Phillies at Brewers Betting Preview

Two Teams Streaking in Opposite Directions

The NL East is getting hot as Philadelphia heads into the June 8th Phillies at Brewers betting matchup. Philadelphia has won five in a row and the Braves have rattled off six straight victories as both teams try to catch the 38-20 Mets. The Phillies win streak reached five games thanks to a 3-2 win in the series opener as +104 underdogs.

The Brewers are atop their division, but have just a 1/2 game lead on the Cardinals as Milwaukee is in the midst of a four game skid. Two of those losses were shutouts, and Tuesday’s 3-2 loss as -113 favorites wasn’t exactly an offensive breakout either. Philadelphia is a -130 favorite in game two, with an O/U of 8.

Phillies With Momentum

It didn’t look good for Philadelphia continuing their win streak on Tuesday, going into the 9th inning down 2-1 against one of the best relievers in the game in Josh Hader. Solo HRs by Alec Bohm and Matt Vierling changed everything though and the Phillies were able to steal a 3-2 win. Philadelphia had lost five of their previous six road games.

The Phillies have run their record to 4-0 under interim manager Rob Thomson, who has taken over for the fired Joe Girardi. Philadelphia has to feel good after getting to Hader, who was 18-18 on saves this season and had converted 32 straight. Hader hadn’t even allowed a run in his last 40 appearances.

Aaron Nola (3-4, 3.92 ERA) gets to go up against the struggling Milwaukee offense in the June 8th Phillies at Brewers betting matchup. Ranger Suarez went 7.0 IP in the opener allowing just 2 ER, but Nola has allowed 4+ ER in two of his last three. Both of those poor outings were at home, but he’s 1-3 with a 3.38 ERA in five road starts.

Brewers Try to Get Some Runs

Milwaukee got multi-hit games from Christian Yelich, Rowdy Tellez, and Andrew McCutchen on Tuesday night, but still dropped a season high fourth straight game. The Brewers have managed just 6 total runs during their four game losing skid.

Yelich was 0-13 coming into Tuesday’s game so his 2-4 night was a good sign. Tellez and McCutchen are the only two Milwaukee players hitting above .300 over the past week, so they could have some struggles against Nola on Wednesday night. Lorenzo Cain has gone 4-5 in his career vs. Nola, and Yelich 9-26 with three XB hits.

Adrian Houser (3-5, 3.51 ERA) is on the bump for Milwaukee looking to continue his success at home this season. Houser has just a 1.95 ERA at home this year (largely boosted by giving up 4 ER to the Reds on May 5th) compared to 5.32 in five road starts.

Free June 8th Phillies at Brewers Betting Pick

The Phillies have a 5-game win streak up against Milwaukee’s 4-game losing streak, but the Brewers look to be the play here. Nola has been very inconsistent as of late but Houser is great at home. The Milwaukee offense is struggling during their slide, but they hit Nola well traditionally and should get back on track in this spot.
