The New York Mets are in St Louis for the second game of their three game series with the Cardinals. This has been a fairly even series over the past few seasons with the home teams winning the majority of the games. The Mets have won just 17 of the last 54 meetings played in St Louis. The other thing of note in this series is the games are usually low scoring with under going 13-3-1 over the last 17 meetings.
Head to Head Trends
Mets are 17-37 in the last 54 meetings in St. Louis.
Under is 13-3-1 in the last 17 meetings.
St Louis Cardinals (-145)
The St Louis Cardinals are 1st in the National League Central 3.5 games up on the 2nd place Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cardinals are the best team in baseball right now with a 57-33 record and I think with their pitching staff they will probably finish the season with the best record.
The Cardinals also have the best home record at 32-11 and when you look at their numbers it’s not hard to see why. At home the Card’s are averaging 3.81 runs per game on offense which isn’t all that super but they allow just 2.65 runs per game which is kind of amazing.
On the mound for the Cardinals in this one is John Lackey who is 7-5 with a 2.99 ERA on the season. I’m not a huge Lackey fan but he’s been getting it done especially at home where he is 5-2 with a 1.98 ERA.
St Louis Cardinals Trends
Cardinals are 47-14 in their last 61 home games.
Cardinals are 13-2 in Lackeys last 15 home starts.
New York Mets (+135)
The New York Mets are 2nd in the National League East just 2.5 games back of the 1st place Washington Nationals. It’s almost hard to believe that a team with 15-29 record on the road can be within a few games of 1st place. The Mets are absolutely horrible on the road mainly due to their offense who are averaging just 2.89 runs per game.
On the hill for the Mets in this one is the old fat man Bartolo Colon who is 9-7 with a 4.46 ERA on the season. How Colon has an above .500 record with a 4.46 ERA while getting just 2.8 runs of support is a total mystery and probably some numbers that will adjust themselves in the second half and probably not in a good way.
New York Mets Trends
Mets are 8-21 in their last 29 road games.
Mets are 0-4 in Colons last 4 starts.
I’m going with the Cardinals over the Mets again today. The Cardinals are the best team in all of baseball with the best home record while the Mets are one of the worst road teams in the league.
