Dallas Wings vs Seattle Storm – WNBA Preview – May 19, 2025

The Seattle Storm travel to Arlington, Texas to take on the Dallas Wings on Monday, May 19, 2025. The game tips off at 8:00 PM ET at College Park Center. Both teams are 0-1 after dropping their season openers over the weekend.

Seattle and Dallas last met in September 2024, with the Storm pulling out a narrow 83-81 win. The Storm are 7-3 in the last 10 games against the Wings. Dallas is looking for its first win under new head coach Chris Koclanes, while Seattle is trying to bounce back from a cold shooting night in Phoenix.

WINGS Preview – Growing Pains for a Young Roster

The Wings opened their season with a 99-84 loss to the Minnesota Lynx. Arike Ogunbowale led Dallas with 16 points on 4-of-12 shooting. DiJonai Carrington, acquired in the offseason, added 15 points, while rookie Paige Bueckers scored 10 points with 7 rebounds in her pro debut.

Dallas struggled most in the third quarter, getting outscored 35-20. They allowed Minnesota to shoot over 50% from the field and gave up 27 second-quarter points and 35 more in the third. The defense gave up 99 total points, which ranked worst in the league after the first set of games.

The Wings were also inefficient from three, hitting just 5-of-17 from long range. Carrington and Bueckers showed promise, but the team lacked defensive stops and offensive flow. They committed 17 fouls and turned the ball over 13 times. More balance and better transition defense will be key against Seattle.

STORM Preview – Cold Start from the Field

Seattle got beat 81-59 in their opener at Phoenix. The Storm never led in the game and shot just 33.3% from the floor. They went 3-of-17 from deep and had only one player, Skylar Diggins, score in double figures. Diggins finished with 21 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals in her return to action.

Nneka Ogwumike added 12 points and 7 rebounds but didn’t get much help. Gabby Williams and Ezi Magbegor combined to shoot 2-for-18 and score just 6 total points. The team also posted only 16 assists while committing 13 turnovers.

On the defensive end, Seattle gave up 53% shooting and 22 free throws. They were outscored in every quarter and gave up a 27-point lead at one point. Rebounding and three-point defense were major concerns. They also lost the fast break battle and had no second-chance points in the second half.

Stats Breakdown – Offense vs Defense

Seattle comes in scoring 59.0 points per game after one contest, shooting 33.3% from the field and 17.6% from three. They are averaging 29 rebounds, 16 assists, and 13 turnovers per game. Their offensive rating is low, and they’ve struggled to generate open shots or get to the line often.

Dallas is scoring 84.0 points per game on 45.6% shooting. They were better from the field than Seattle but allowed 99 points and gave up 35 made shots. They average 31 rebounds and only 6 offensive boards, showing a need for more hustle in the paint.

Defensively, Dallas allowed 35 points in the third quarter and got beat on second-chance points. Seattle, meanwhile, had just 2 blocked shots and allowed Phoenix to score easily inside. Both teams need to clean up defense, but Seattle has more experienced defenders to rely on.

Betting Prediction

The spread favors Seattle by 2.5 points on the road. The total is 163.5. Seattle has covered in 7 of the last 10 meetings with Dallas. They won 3 of 4 against the Wings last season, including a road game decided by 2 points in September.

Dallas has talent but is still learning how to play together. They gave up nearly 100 points in their opener and were outplayed for most of the second half. Seattle has the edge in guard play with Diggins and Ogwumike’s presence inside. If the Storm can shoot closer to their average and defend the three better, they should win and cover.

Pick: Seattle Storm -2.5
