2018-19 NCAAM Basketball Central – The Conferences
Using the links below, you can connect to each NCAAM Basketball conference. Once you’re on a specific conference hub page, you’ll be able to access a detailed analysis of each team. In addition, on each hub page, you’ll find a simple summary of each club as well as our projection of the order of finish for each club.
Atlantic Coast Conference
The Duke Blue Devils are the top team in the ACC. However, they will see plenty of competition from teams such as the Virginia Cavaliers, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Virginia Tech Hokies. The Syracuse Orange bring a lot of competitive experience to the court this year. They will be in the mix. Clemson finished third last season, and despite some losses, will battle for a top spot in the conference.
Big 12 Conference
The Kansas Jayhawks begin this season as the team to beat. They are exceptionally deep and talented. After that, it’s the Kansas State Wildcats. This is an experienced and skilled basketball team. The West Virginia Mountaineers, TCU Horned Frogs, and Iowa State Cyclones are not as deep or complete was Kansas and Kansas State, but they do have the talent to be competitive in the Big 12.
Big East Conference
The Villanova Wildcats are projected to be the top club in the Big East. They will depend on a lot on their incoming class of freshmen. Also expected to be at the top of the conference are the Xavier Musketeers and the Marquette Golden Eagles. We think that the Providence Friars will certainly be solid. If the St. John’s Red Storm backcourt comes together, they could put massive numbers on the scoreboard.
Big Ten Conference
This year in the Big Ten, there are four teams that you want to watch carefully. The first would be the Michigan State Spartans. Head coach Tom Izzo knows how to build a team that is competitive within the conference and nationally. The Michigan Wolverines look to be ready to mix it up. We think the Nebraska Cornhuskers can do some damage. This team has some top-notch scorers. Although the Boilermakers of Purdue won’t be as strong as they were last season, they will be a force to contend with. The Indiana Hoosiers could be a wild card in this conference.
In the Pac-12, the Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies, and UCLA Bruins all have a shot at taking the league trophy. We like the Ducks and their tough defense. But the Wildcats bring veteran experience to the court, while the Bruins see some of the best players in the Pac-12 return for one more season. The Arizona State Sun Devils may have lost some of their offensive potential but important transfers could make up for those losses. The Oregon State Beavers have a lot of offensive power on hand.
Once again, the Kentucky Wildcats are ranked the number one team in the SEC. The Wildcat recruiting class is one of the best in the nation. The Tennessee Volunteers bring some of the finest talent in the conference into this season. Watch the Auburn Tigers. Although they’ve lost some of their talent and experience, this team still has a lot going for it. The LSU Tigers had a growth spurt last season, and we expect them to continue to improve, offering some of the better teams solid competition.
