Boston Red Sox vs Texas Rangers Moneyline Pick – Pitching Matchup

Chris Sale will make his 14th start of the season for the Red Sox. He is coming off of a dominant shutout performance against Kansas City where he fanned 12 batters. After a bit of a rocky start to the year, Sale has settled in and has been great since the beginning of May. In his six starts last month, he had a 2.82 ERA with opponents hitting just .167 against him. Despite his recent performances, Sale has not been rewarded with wins. In his last seven games, he is 2-2. In both victories, he went a combined 15 innings and allowed zero runs. While Sale has gotten back to form, he will need better run support to earn his third win of the year.

Texas starter Mike Minor is having himself a career year. The 31-year old lefty is 5-4 on the season with a 2.55 ERA. He has been solid recently as well with a 2.57 ERA in May. In his single start in June he allowed seven hits and zero runs in 5.2 innings against Baltimore. Minor has relied on his 93mph fastball and his 87mph circle changeup to generate strikeouts and flyouts. He is 2-2 on the road and will look for his third away win against a Sox team which he had a 3.97 ERA against last season.

Sox Bats Struggle against Rays

The Red Sox saw their bats go cold against Tampa Bay in their last series. They scored nine runs over the four games. Many of their stars have had rough times getting on base with four starters batting under .200 in the last week. Mookie Betts has batted .192 with just two RBIs. Rafael Devers, who was voted AL player of the month in May, is batting .167 in the last week. It is notable that he leads the club in RBI in this span. Michael Chavis and catcher Christian Vazquez, are hitting .154 and .105 respectively.

The Red Sox hope to get JD Martinez back in the lineup. He has been out for the last four games but is close to returning. Martinez has 12 home runs and a .296 average on the year. His .899 OPS is first on the team among regulars in the Sox lineup. With this club’s recent struggles, his presence in the lineup would be greatly appreciated.
