Week Nine NCAAF Pick: Miami Hurricanes at Boston College Eagles

ACC Battle Should Offer Plenty of Scoring

The Miami Hurricanes (5-2 Overall, 2-1 ACC) meet the Boston College Eagles (5-2 Overall, 2-1 ACC) tonight for an 8 p.m. E.T. game. Both teams are in third place in their respective conference divisions. Miami is coming off a 16-13 loss to Virginia, while BC is fresh from a 38-20 victory over Louisville.

Each of these teams can really use a win in their respective division. Our Week 9 Hurricanes play Eagles totals pick has the over/under at 50.0. Here’s how we see this ACC matchup unfolding in what we think has the potential to envision a lot of points being scored.

Big Scoring Potential

It is true that both Miami and BC can score. The Hurricanes are averaging 37.4 PPG, while the Eagles have been putting 39.6 PPG on the scoreboard. Miami is generating 399.4 YPG of offense with 188.3 of those yards on the ground. At the same time, Boston College has been good for 447.4 yards of offense per game. Of those 400-plus yards, 220.9 have come from the running game. The Eagles are very tough to stop, while the Hurricanes are proficient when it comes to scoring.

Will Miami D Hold?

The Hurricane’s defense is giving up on average just 18.1 PPG. Last week in their loss versus Virginia, they allowed the Cavaliers just 16 points. The team is equally tough on both opponent passing and running games. They’ve posted 11 picks and 21 PD, while also recording 70 TFL and 23 sacks. BC sophomore QB Anthony Brown has had one bad game. That was against Purdue where he allowed all four of his picks. Brown has tossed 14 TD passes. RB A.J. Dillon, who has missed the last two games with an ankle injury, will most likely play tonight. Dillon, who has six TD runs, is averaging 6.4 YPA. We think, in devising our Week 9 Hurricanes play Eagles totals pick, that  BC will score at least 27 points in this game.

Eagles Give Up Points

Boston College is offering opponents just over 26 PPG. For Miami, senior QB Malik Rosier will start over freshman signal caller N’Kosi Perry. Both have had pick issues. Perry is a bit more accurate passer, while Rosier is a major rushing threat. Eagle DB Hamp Cheevers, who has four INTs, is exceptionally dangerous. Also for BC, two defensive ends, Zach Allen and Wyatt Ray III, are tough to stop. Together they have 13 sacks and 21 TFL. These three players could keep Miami point totals down. Still, with Rosier at the helm, we can see this team scoring 25-plus points. His presence is important.

Our Week 9 Hurricanes Play Eagles Totals Pick

The over/under started at 58.0. It is now at 50.0. We imagine, with two dynamite offenses taking the field, that at least 52 points will be scored. Plus, one thing we did not mention concerns the numerous injuries on D that Miami brings to this game. Our Week 9 Hurricanes play Eagles totals pick is over 50.0.
