College Football Pick: Tulane Green Wave at Oklahoma Sooners

Can Green Wave Handle Sooners?

The #2 Oklahoma Sooners (2-0) of the Big 12 welcome the AAC’s Tulane Green Wave (1-1) today for a 6:00 p.m. E.T. kickoff. The Sooners are hot off their 31-16 win over former #2 Ohio State. That win happened last week. In the first week of the 2017 season, Oklahoma beat UTEP 56-7. The Green Wave started the season with a 43-14 win over Grambling. Last week in a conference contest they lost to the Navy Midshipmen 23-21. Our Tulane plays Oklahoma 2017 college football pick has the Sooners favored by 32.5 and the over/under at 54.0. The game will be played at Oklahoma’s Memorial Stadium.

Tulane Offense vs. Sooners Defense

The Tulane offense is averaging 32.0 PPG. This is a run-centered, option offense that is averaging 275.5 YPG on the ground. Green Wave QB Jonathan Banks has completed 65% of his passes, hitting for three scores. He’s run the ball 19 times, averaging 3.9 YPA and scoring once. Terren Encalade leads the team with eight receptions. He’s averaging 11.1 YPA and has taken in one touchdown pass. Five players have between 12 and 27 rushes, including top ground gainer and carrier Dontrell Hilliard with 104 yards and one TD. He’s averaging 3.9 YPA.

Against the Oklahoma D, teams are averaging a mere 11.5 PPG. They’ve allowed just 120.0 YPG on the ground and opponents have scored just two touchdowns against them. DE/LB Ogbonnia Okoronkwo has been massive with 2.5 sacks, 4.5 TFL, and 10 tackles. He also has an interception and one pass defended.

Oklahoma Offense vs. Green Wave D

QB Baker Mayfield runs a dynamic offense that’s been averaging PPG. Mayfield has completed 83.6 percent of his passing, hitting for a half-dozen TDs and tossing no INTs. He’s averaging over 440 yards per game in passing. Four players have between eight and nine catches and each is averaging 10 or more yards per reception. Senior WR Jeff Badet has caught nine passes for 173 yards, averaging 19.2 YPC. Although freshman RB Trey Sermon is still looking for his first rushing touchdown, he’s performed well, averaging 4.7 YPA while gaining a total of 113 yards.

Corners Jarrod Franklin (11 TCKLs, 1 TFL, 1 PD) and Parry Nickerson (10 TCKLs, 1 TFL, 1 INT, 1 PD) are tough on D. LB Rae Juan Marbley leads the team with 14 tackles; he also has one pick, two TFL, and one FF. Five players are in double digits for tackles. The big question is can these guys stop Mayfield?
