Sunday July 5th Rocket Mortgage Classic Final Round Betting

Can Matthew Wolff Hold on For the Win?

Matthew Wolff comes into the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic final round betting as the leader at -19 and the live favorite to win at +110. Wolff has shot -8 in each of the last two days so he is really comfortable at Detroit GC. Saturday’s round was even more impressive considering Wolff had 3 bogeys on the day.

Oddsmakers aren’t completely counting out Bryson Dechambeau at +225 even though he enters Rocket Mortgage Classic final round betting 3 shots back at -16. Ryan Armour shot a 68 on Saturday but is still in the mix at -16 as well. Here’s a look at some of today’s head-to-head matchups:

Bryson DeChambau(-140) vs. Webb Simpson (+110)

Just like in the 3rd round, Bryson DeChambeau is matched up with Webb Simpson for Rocket Mortgage Classic final round betting. Dechambeau is in the hunt just three strokes back from Wolff but Simpson is coming off his worst round of the tournament a 71.

Both golfers have just one bogey the last two rounds but Simpson was very mediocre on Saturday with just two birdies. Dechambeau has a major advantage of the tees in this matchup as the average drive comparison is 347 to 300. Simpson has a higher fareway percentage, but you don’t always need to be accurate when you can go that long.
Pick: Dechambeau -140

Tyrell Hatton (-115) vs. Viktor Hovland (-115)

Oddsmakers are calling it a toss-up in the matchup of Tyrell Hatton vs. Viktor Hovland listing both golfers at -115. Hovland comes into Rocket Mortgage Classic final round betting at -13 while Hatton is at -12. Hovland actually has the 5th best odds to win this tournament at +2800 but he’d have to somehow make up 6 shots. Hatton is +6600.

This one could be coming down to a draw as they have combined to shoot between 67-69 in all six rounds thus far. If somebody were to falter today you’d think it would have to be Hatton, who has hit 66.7% of GIR compared to 81.5 for Hovland. Hatton also has four bogeys the last two days which isn’t bad – but Hovland has one the whole tournament.
Pick: Viktor Hovland -115

Chris Kirk -105 vs. Mark Hubbard -125

There seems to be value on Chris Kirk at -105 going into Rocket Mortgage Classic final round betting as he was tied atop the leaderboard prior to Saturday’s 70. Mark Hubbard has shot sub-70 in all three of his rounds though as both golfers sit at -14.

Hubbard has been great this weekend hitting 78.6% of his fairways and 85.2% of GIR compared to 66.7 and 66.7 for Kirk. A double bogey on the par 3 11 hole completely changed Hubbard’s round on Saturday. Even a par there has Hubbard at 3 strokes off the lead and a dark horse favorite to win.
Pick: Hubbard -125

Hideki Matsuyama -135 vs. Tony Finau +105

Two golfers who were red hot on Saturday match up for Rocket Mortgage Classic final round betting. Tony Finau shot a -6, 66 in the 3rd round which included an Eagle on the 552 yard par 5 hole 7. Hideki Matsuyama also shot a bogey free round en route to a -7, 65. Matsuyama is a stroke ahead at -12.

So which golfer will falter off that scorching pace in the final 18? Matsuyama has the high round of the two with Thursday’s 71 but Finau had two bogeys and a double bogey in Friday’s 70. Finau is hitting the fareway just 54.8% of the time compared to 71.4% for Matsuyama. Both are 72% or better for GIR but Matsuyama has a slight edge in distance off the tee which makes him the play.
Pick: Matsuyama -135
