The New York Mets (7-3, 2-1 home) host the San Francisco Giants (7-2, 3-0 away) in a Tuesday double-header in the Big Apple. Monday’s series-opener was postponed due to bad weather.

The first pitch of Tuesday’s nightcap is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. EST inside Citi Field in Queens, New York. New York is the betting favorite (-130) on the moneyline, and the over-under total is six runs.

What to Know – San Francisco Giants

The Giants are off to a hot start and perfect on the road this season. San Francisco is a playoff contender and will battle the Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West. The Giants returned to the postseason last year after missing the playoffs for four straight seasons.

San Francisco ace Logan Webb (1-0, 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP) gets the ball in game two. The right-hander’s looked stellar in his two starts this season, allowing just two earned runs over 14 innings of action. The 25-year-old picked up his first victory of the year in his last start, tossing 8.0 innings of one-run ball in a win over the San Diego Padres.

On offense, the Giants are hitting .236 as a team and averaging 4.8 runs per game. San Francisco’s 2.20 team ERA is the best in the majors over the first two weeks of action.

Veteran first baseman Brandon Belt is firing on all cylinders at the dish. Belt’s hitting .345 (10-of-29) with three home runs and seven runs driven in. Shortstop Thairo Estrada is the team leader in RBIs (8) and runs scored (9).

What to Know – New York Mets

New York has built an early cushion in the NL East standings holding a 2.5 lead over the Miami Marlins. The Mets added key acquisitions in the offseason to get back to the postseason for the first time since 2016.

The Mets counter with an ace of their own in Max Scherzer (2-0, 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP). The veteran right-hander signed with the Mets in the offseason and has picked up victories in his first two starts for New York. Scherzer’s thrown 11.0 innings, scattered eight hits, walked four, and allowed four earned runs with 13 strikeouts.

New York is sixth in the majors with a .253 team batting average, scoring 5.1 runs per contest. The Mets sport a 2.35 team ERA, second in the MLB behind the Giants.

Designated hitter Pete Alonso is second in the majors with 14 runs driven in, and outfielder Starling Marte has plated ten. Shortstop Francisco Lindor put 2021 in the rearview and already has three home runs and two stolen bases this season.

The Pick is In

Two of the best pitching staffs in the league go head-to-head on Tuesday. We won’t know which starters play or sit in game two of today’s twin bill, but we know two of the league’s top arms will be on the hill. Give us the eight-time All-Star on the mound and the Mets in a close one in game two.
