Travelers Championship Golf Picks

PGA travels championship

The Course

This week the PGA tour heads to the TPC River Highlands in Connecticut for the Travelers Championship. The TPC River Highlands isn’t the longest course in the world at 6,841 yards but it is just a par 70. Last year Ken Duke won in a playoff beating Chris Stroud and picked up his first career win at the age of 44.

Bubba Watson 10-1

Bubba Watson is 2nd in the FedEx Cup standings and 3rd in the official world golf rankings. I kind of hate picking the favorite in a tournament but Bubba has been playing great this season and he also plays well in the Travelers Championship. This season Bubba has 2 wins, 2 second place finishes and 1 third place finish. Last week at the U.S Open Bubba actually missed the cut for his first missed cut of the season although he did withdraw from the Arnold Palmer earlier this season after shooting a 83 in the first round. In Bubba’s last four starts at the Travelers he has three top 5’s including a win in 2010.

Bubba Watson Stats

Watson is 3rd in the official world golf rankings.
Watson has 2 wins this season.
Watson has 3 top 5 finishes in his last four starts at the Travelers.

Matt Kucher 12-1

Matt Kucher is 3rd in the FedEx Cup standings and 5th in the official world golf rankings. Matt Kucher has been one of the most consistent golfers finishing in the top 10 in 9 of his 16 tournaments this season. Kucher has one win this season at the RBC Heritage back in April and could have had a couple more wins if it wasn’t for a couple bad shots late in tournaments. Kucher doesn’t play this tournament often but in his last start in 2008 here he had an 8th place finish.

Matt Kucher Stats

Kucher has 9 top 10 finishes this season.
Kucher is 3rd in the FedEx Cup standings.

Dustin Johnson 16-1

Dustin Johnson is 4th in the FedEx Cup standings and 15th in the official world golf rankings. This season the long hitting Johnson has one win and two 2nd place finishes. Last week at the U.S. Open he finished tied for 4th and would have been right in the mix if Martin Kaymer didn’t tear Pinehurst No. 2 a new one and win by 8 strokes. Johnson hasn’t player the Travelers since 2009 when he withdrew after the first round.

Dustin Johnson Stats

Johnson is 4th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Johnson is 2nd in driving distance with 311 years.

Graham Deleat 34-1

Graham DeLeat is 24th in the FedEx Cup standings and 35th in the official world golf rankings. DeLeat has yet to win on the PGA tour but after stepping up his game last season he has three 2nd place finishes and two 3rd place finishes so a win not far away. DeLeat is a ball striking machine last season he finished 1st in ball striking and 1st in total driving. This season is more of the same he is 1st in ball striking again and also 1st in greens in regulation so if he can get his putter going he is a definite threat to win.

Graham Deleat Stats

DeLeat is 1st in ball striking.
DeLeat is 1st in greens in regulation with 74%

Camilo Villegas 95-1

Camilo Villegas is 92nd in the FedEx Cup standings and 238th in the official world golf rankings. Villegas is obviously a long shot to win but he has 3 wins on the PGA tour so he’s been there before and I think he can get there again. Villegas hasn’t done a whole lot this season but he has made 14 out of 20 cuts and he had his best finish of the season a couple weeks ago at the FedEx St. Jude Classic where he finished 11th.

Camilo Villegas Stats

Villegas has made 14 of 20 cuts this season.
