NHL Pick: Ottawa Senators at Winnipeg Jets

Overview

The Ottawa Senators are in Winnipeg tonight where they take on the Jets. The Jets haven’t had much luck versus the Senators of late winning just 2 of the last 9 meetings including losing the last 5 in a row played in Winnipeg.

Head to Head Trends

Senators are 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Winnipeg.
Senators are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings.

Winnipeg Jets (-120)

The Winnipeg Jets are last in the Central Division with 69 points 32 points out of 1st place and 18 points back of the Minnesota Wild for the final playoff spot in the West so with just 6 games remaining they are mathematically out of the playoffs.

I really liked the Jets early in the season and though they had a shot at a playoff spot this year but once their offense started to cool off they just didn’t have the defense to hang in the West. The Jets average 2.53 goals per game on offense which isn’t all that great but it’s definitely better then the 2.89 goals per game they allow on defense.

Winnipeg Jets Trends

Jets are 6-15 in their last 21 overall.
Jets are 5-13 in their last 18 home games.

Ottawa Senators (+110)

The Ottawa Senators are 5th in the Atlantic Division with 77 points 26 points out of 1st place and 10 points back of the final playoff spot and even though they are not mathematically out of a playoff spot they’re pretty much done for the season.

The Senators have a decent offense averaging 2.78 goals per game but their defense is one of the worst in the league allowing 3.00 goals per game. The Senators are also one of the worst road teams in the league where they are just 14-24 on the season. Their offense away from home stays about the same averaging 2.76 goals per game but their defense is absolutely horrible allowing 3.49 goals per game.

Ottawa Senators Trends

Senators are 7-20 in their last 27 road games.
Senators are 6-13 in their last 19 games playing on 3 or more days rest.

Conclusion

I like the Winnipeg Jets over the Senators in this one. Both teams are pretty bad but I just don’t like the way the Senators play away from home so I think they’re probably a good fade on the road for the rest of the season.
