NHL Pick: New York Rangers at Boston Bruins

Overview

The New York Rangers visit the TD Garden in Boston for an afternoon match up with the Bruins. The Bruins have played the Rangers well over the past few seasons wining 8 of the last 10 meetings overall including the last 5 in a row played at home in Boston. There’s also a trend of low scoring games when they play in Boston going over the total just 3 times in the last 18 meetings.

Head to Head Trends

Rangers are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings in Boston.
Under is 11-3-4 in the last 18 meetings in Boston.

Boston Bruins (-110)

The Boston Bruins are 5th in the Atlantic Division with 85 points and are currently tied with the Ottawa Senators for the final played spot in the East but the Sen’s do have an extra game in hand over the Bruins. It seems like the Bruins are finding new way to lose almost every game. The Bruins have lost their last 6 games although they really should have won at least 3 of those games and maybe even 4 of them.

They hammered the Sabres out-shooting them 45-24 but still lost in a shootout, they lost another one in a shootout to the Panthers and in their last game they gave up a goal in the last minute of the game and then lost in overtime to the Ducks. The same thing happened to the Bruins last month where nothing went right for the losing 6 games in a row and again at least half of those game they should have won but after that they ended up winning 8 of their next 10 games so lets hope history repeats itself.

Boston Bruins Trends

Bruins are 0-6 in their last 6 overall.
Bruins are 36-15 in their last 51 Saturday games.

New York Rangers (-110)

The New York Rangers are 1st in the Metropolitan Division with 101 points which is also tied with the Ducks for the best record in the entire league although the Ducks do have 3 extra games played so the Rangers are technically in 1st place overall. The Rangers have been playing some strong hockey for a while now and they don’t seem to have many weak areas they’re top 3 in offense and defense.

New York Rangers Trends

Rangers are 38-14 in their last 52 overall.
Rangers are 21-6 in their last 27 road games.

Conclusion

I’m going to go with the Bruins over the Rangers in this one. Maybe it’s just because I’m a Bruins fan but I really think they are due for a win. They did get David Krejci back last game and he picked up a couple points so having him in the lineup obviously makes the Bruins better plus there are rumors Henrik Lundquist might be starting in goal for the Rangers this afternoon for his first start in over a month and a half so he might be a little rusty.
