NHL Pick: Florida Panthers at Boston Bruins

Overview

The Florida Panthers visit the TD Garden in Boston Tuesday when they take on the Bruins. The Bruins have absolutely dominated the Panthers over the past few years winning 16 of the last 19 meetings which includes the last 8 straight. The Bruins have also won 8 of the last 9 meetings in Boston which includes the last 6 in a row.

Head to Head Trends

Panthers are 0-6 in the last 6 meetings in Boston.
Panthers are 0-8 in the last 8 meetings overall.

Boston Bruins (-185)

The Boston Bruins are 4th in the Atlantic division with 14 points 3 points back of the Montreal Canadians and Tampa Bay Lightning who are both tied for 1st place with 17 points. This hasn’t exactly been the best start for the Bruins they did lose 3 of their first 4 games but their game seems to be coming around as they have now won 5 of their last 7. The Bruins are averaging 2.69 goals per game on offense and allowing 2.46 goals per game on defense which is a lot for the Bruins who usually play a good tight defensive style of hockey. At home the Bruins are averaging just 2.43 goals per game on offense while allowing 2.71 goals and for a top team like the Bruins this is basically a statistical anomaly that will probably correct itself very quickly.

Boston Bruins Trends

Bruins are 5-2 in their last 7 overall.
Bruins are 36-15 in their last 51 home games.

Florida Panthers (+166)

The Florida Panthers are 7th in the Atlantic Division with 11 points 6 point out of 1st place. The Panthers lost their first 3 games of the season but they have won 4 of their last 6 games with the 2 losses coming in OT or the Shootout so they’ve picked up points in their last 6 straight games. The Panthers are having a tough time putting pucks in the net this season averaging 1.6 goals per game and have only scored more then 2 goals in a game just one time all season. On defense they are actually pretty solid but once their goal tending cools off a bit they will really struggle to win many games.

Florida Panthers Trends

Panthers are 12-27 in their last 39 overall.
Panthers are 8-20 in their last 28 vs. Eastern Conference.

Conclusion

Even though the Bruins are a fairly big favorite at -185 I still like them in this one. The Bruins are playing much better lately and I think they just have too much fire power for the Panthers to keep up with.
