NHL Pick: Chicago Blackhawks at Dallas Stars

Overview

The Chicago Blackhawks visit the American Airlines Center in Dallas today where they take on Central Division rivals the Dallas Stars. This has been a series dominated by the Blackhawks over the past few seasons winning 11 of the last 13 meetings including the last 7 in a row played on the road in Dallas.

Head to Head Trends

Blackhawks are 11-2 in the last 13 meetings.
Blackhawks are 7-0 in the last 7 meetings in Dallas.

Dallas Stars (+115)

The Dallas Stars are 7th in the Central Division with 76 points and even though they are a last place team they’re not totally out of the playoffs just yet although being 7 points back with 11 games to go and having to leapfrog four other teams it is very unlikely they could pull it off. The Stars have been playing some good hockey over the past couple weeks winning 6 of their last 8 games. The Stars are the second highest scoring team in the league averaging 3.1 goals per game but they also have the fourth worst defense allowing 3.2 goals per game although they have improved greatly in that area as the season has gone on.

Dallas Stars Trends

Stars are 3-8 in their last 11 home games.
Stars are 25-57 in their last 82 vs. Central.

Chicago Blackhawks (-125)

The Chicago Blackhawks are 3rd in the Central Division with 92 points and I would say they are probably one of the best 3 teams in the league. The Blackhawks have a pretty good offense averaging 2.9 goals per game but their biggest strength is their defense allowing just 2.3 goals per game. The Blackhawks have been playing some great hockey of late especially on defense winning 6 of their last 7 games and allowing just 8 goals total over that stretch.

Chicago Blackhawks Trends

Blackhawks are 6-0 in their last 6 vs. a team with a losing record.
Blackhawks are 6-1 in their last 7 road games.

Conclusion

I’m going to take the Chicago  Blackhawks over the Dallas Stars in this one. Both teams are playing some great hockey at the moment but I think the Blackhawks are just too strong a team especially with the way they are playing on defense right now.
