MLB Sunday April 17th Cubs at Rockies Betting Matchup

Chicago Tries for a 4-Game Split

Colorado looks for a third straight victory and a series when as they head into the Sunday April 17th Cubs at Rockies betting matchup. Chicago was able to take the opener 5-2 as +114 underdogs, but have since lost 6-5 and 9-6.

The Rockies continue their solid start to the year with a 6-2 record that has them atop the NL West in a tie with the Dodgers and Giants. Oddsmakers have Colorado as a -130 favorite for the series finale against the 4-4 Cubs.

Can Cubs Get the Split?

Chicago heads back home for a 7-game stretch at Wrigley Field on Monday, and they hope to get to 3-3 on their current road swing. The Cubs had a disappointing two game split in Pittsburgh, but going 2-2 at Coors Field would be considered a success.

The Cubs’ offense is putting the bat on the ball as you’d expect at Coors Field, compiling 36 hits so far in the first three games of the series. Jonathan Villar is red hot going 8-12 this series, while it also looks like Patrick Wisdom could be coming around a bit going 5 for his last 6. Interestingly enough out of all those hits, Frank Schwindel has the team’s only HR leaving the yard on Thursday.

Drew Smyly was great in his Cubs debut last week, throwing 5.0 IP while allowing just 3 hits and 0 ER. That was against the Pirates though, and now the left-hander will try to repeat that against a much better offense and in a place that is the most hitter-friendly in the league. The last two games in this series have gone ‘over’ the total, a number that is 11 in the April 17th Cubs at Rockies betting matchup.

Colorado Needs to Keep the Pace

The NL West looks like it’s going to be another dog fight this season, with four teams already having 5+ wins on the year. The Dodgers have rattled off five straight victories and the Giants four, so Colorado needs Sunday’s contest in a game they are favored in. The Rockies did start off the year taking two of three from the Dodgers which is definitely a good thing.

Kris Bryant has gone 4-12 against his old team this weekend, and his average is .344 on the year although he’s still waiting on his first HR with the Rockies. Bryant is 0-3 in his career vs. Smyly, and the Rockies as a team are just 7 for 38 (.157) vs. the left-hander. C.J. Cron went deep twice on Saturday and once on Friday giving him a league leading five on the season.

Austin Gomber goes for the Rockies on Sunday giving up 3 ER over 4.2 IP last week in his season debut, giving him a 5.79 ERA on the season.  The Cubs are 5-25 as a team vs. the left-hander.

Free April 17th Cubs at Rockies Betting Pick

Can Chicago get the split as +108 underdogs on Sunday? Chicago’s bats have been hot this weekend and although Smyly was solid in his opener, that was also against Pittsburgh. Cron is dialed in for Colorado and the only real way to play this one is on the over.
