MLB Saturday July 2nd Padres at Dodgers Betting Preview

Pitcher's Duel at Chavez Ravine?

The first two games of a 4-game NL West weekend series have gone Los Angeles’ way, something the visitors will try to change in the July 2nd Padres at Dodgers betting matchup. L.A. has now pushed their lead up to 3.5 games in the division, looking to add to that padding on Saturday night.

The Dodgers picked up a 3-1 win on Thursday as -126 favorites and repeated that feat 5-1 on Friday at -180. Oddsmakers have L.A. set at -146 for game three,  but San Diego has some value at +124 with Yu Darvish on the mound. The Dodgers are now 4-1 in the head to head series this season.

San Diego Offense Having a Rough Go

The Padres have managed just two runs this series, and have now dropped five of their last six games overall. This stretch has dropped San Diego a bit in the NL West, but at 46-33 they still look destined for at the very least a wild card berth. Plus, July should be the last month San Diego plays without Fernando Tatis, Jr. who is expected to return in August.

The San Diego offense doesn’t feature any batter hitting above .275 over the past week, so they may have a tough time keeping up with the L.A. offense in the July 2nd Padres at Dodgers betting matchup. That’s especially true with Los Angeles starter Tyler Anderson suffering his first loss of the season his last time out.

Yu Darvish (7-3, 3.26 ERA) will try to hold up his end of the pitching duel bargain on Saturday night. He’s been solid with just 2 ER allowed over his last three starts, and has pitched into the 7th inning in six straight.

Dodgers Back in Form

L.A. had lost three of four, but they look back on track with three straight wins. Justin Turner fueled Thursday’s win with 2 HRs while Max Muncy and Cody Bellinger went yard to help get Friday’s win.

The Dodgers are up against Darvish on Saturday night, with the San Diego starter being 3-2 with a 4.93 ERA on the road this year compared to sporting a 1.75 ERA in 7 home starts. Trea Turner is 5 for 11 in his career vs. Darvish while Freddie Freeman is 4-13 with a HR vs. the Padres starter.

Anderson (8-1, 3.23 ERA) will try to bounce back from suffering his first loss of the season last time out. He allowed 4ER over 6.0 IP, which actually isn’t a horrible outing pitching at Coors Field. The left-hander is 5-0 with a 2.97 ERA at home on the year.

San Diego has gone 10-2 in their last 12 road games vs. a LH starter, so they have some value at +124 in this spot. The Padres have lost five of their last six overall though, are are just 1-6 in their last 7 road tilts.

The Dodgers are 22-12 at home this season, but 50-17 in L.A. dating back to last year. 73% of the betting public likes Los Angeles, but Darvish has been pitching very well for the Padres. This betting total is 8, which looks like it will go ‘under.’ with the matchup on the mound.
