MLB Pick: Seattle Mariners at LA Angels

Angels teamOverview

The Seattle Mariners take on the LA Angels today in LA in the third game of the four game series. This series has been a couple blowouts so far with the Angels winning the first game 8-1 and the Mariners taking the second game 13-2. The Mariners have played the Angels well this season winning 8 of the 14 meetings so far although most of those wins came very early in the season.

Head to Head Trends

Mariners are 25-53 in the last 78 meetings in Los Angeles.
Under is 4-1 in Wilsons last 5 starts vs. Mariners.

LA Angels (-115)

The LA Angels are 1st in the American League West 10.5 games clear of 2nd place Oakland who have really just fell off a cliff lately. The Angels have the best record in baseball with 94 wins and just 57 losses. The Angels have a pretty good pitching staff allowing 3.88 runs per game but their real strength this season has been their offense averaging 4.89 runs per game which is tops in baseball. An interesting note about the Angels offense is that they are averaging 5.30 runs per 9 innings off left handed pitching which is really amazing considering most teams hit below what they do against righties because of all the left handed specialists teams have in their bullpens these days. On the hill for the Angels is lefty C.J. Wilson who is 12-9 with a 4.61 ERA on the season.

LA Angels Trends

Angels are 9-1 in Wilsons last 10 home starts.
Angels are 56-24 in their last 80 overall.

Seattle Mariners (+105)

The Seattle Mariners are 3rd in the American League Central 12.5 games back of the Angels. The Mariners have struggled at times on offense this season averaging 3.96 runs per game so it’s a good thing they have the best pitching staff in baseball allowing just 3.27 runs per game. The Mariners had a big night on offense last game scoring 13 runs but before that they had scored just 14 runs total in their last 8 games. Starting for the Mariners today is lefty James Paxton who is 6-2 with a 1.83 ERA in 10 starts this season.

Seattle Mariners Trends

Mariners are 8-3 in Paxtons last 11 starts.
Mariners are 2-5 in their last 7 overall.

Conclusion

I’m going to go with the Angels to bounce back from yesterdays blowout loss that hurt my Bovada account. I have a feeling the Angels are probably not very impressed with the way they played yesterday against the division rival Mariners so I think they might put a little extra into tonight’s games.
