MLB Pick: San Francisco Giants at Miami Marlins

The San Francisco Giants are in Florida for the first game of a three game series versus the Marlins. This has been a fairly even series over the past couple seasons although the Giants have won 5 of the last 7 meetings played in Miami.

Head to Head Trends

Giants are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Miami.
Giants are 4-1 in Vogelsongs last 5 starts vs. Marlins.

Miami Marlins (-115)

The Miami Marlins are 4th in the National League East 11.5 games behind the 1st place Washington Nationals. The Marlins have been ice cold over the last week or so winning just 2 of their last 11 games. The Marlins offense has really been struggling batting .210 and averaging just 2 runs per game over their last 10 games and now with Giancarlo Stanton out the Marlins are going to be in tough to win many games for the next while.

On the hill for the Marlins today is Mat Latos who is 2-5 with a 5.49 ERA on the season. Latos hasn’t pitched well this season especially at home where he is just 1-3 with a 7.60 ERA.

Miami Marlins Trends

Marlins are 1-6 in their last 7 overall.
Marlins are 1-5 in Latos’ last 6 starts.

San Francisco Giants (+105)

The San Francisco Giants are 2nd in the National League West just a half game back of the 1st place LA Dodgers. After a slow start to the season losing 9 of their first 13 games the Giants have played great and after winning 4 of their last 5 games it looks like they are starting to heat up again.

Starting for the Giants in this one is Ryan Vogelsong who is 6-5 with a 4.05 ERA on the season. Vogelsong hasn’t been super great this season but he’s been good enough and he usually gives the Giants a chance to win.

San Francisco Giants Trends

Giants are 4-1 in their last 5 overall.
Giants are 7-3 in Vogelsongs last 10 starts.

I like the San Francisco Giants over the Marlins in this one. Not sure why the Marlins are favored I really can’t see anyone wanting to bet them here but they are so that just makes it better for all of us on the Giants today.
