MLB Pick: Miami Marlins at LA Dodgers

Marlins vs Dodgers PickOverview

The Miami Marlins are in LA today for the final game of their four game series with the Dodgers. The Marlins are going for the sweep today after winning the first 3 games of the series outscoring the Dodgers 11-5.

Head to Head Trends

Over is 38-13-5 in the last 56 meetings.
Marlins are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Los Angeles.

LA Dodgers (-130)

The LA Dodgers are 1st in the National League West with a 12-10 record just a half game up on the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers are playing some decent ball but to be fair they haven’t had the hardest schedule so far this season.

The Dodgers are scoring some runs averaging 4.50 runs per game and they’re also getting some pretty good pitching allowing just 3.73 runs per game but early in the season they had a 3 games series versus the Padres where they outscored them 25-0 so their numbers are still a little bit skewed from that.

On the hill for the Dodgers today is rookie Kenta Maeda who is off to a super impressive start to his big league career. In four starts so far this season Maeda is 3-0 with a 0.36 ERA. I don’t know much about Maedas, all his numbers look great but you have to wonder just how long this great start will last before hitters figure him out and he get lit up.

LA Dodgers Trends

Dodgers are 1-4 in their last 5 home games.
Dodgers are 45-20 in their last 65 home games vs. a team with a losing record.

Miami Marlins (+120)

The Miami Marlins are 4th in the National League East with a 9-11 record on the season. The Marlins started the season kind of slow especially with the bats averaging just 3.70 runs per game but it looks like their hitters are starting to come around including the big man Giancarlo Stanton who has 3 home runs and 7 RBI’s over his last 4 games.

Starting for the Marlins today is Jose Fernandez who is 1-2 with a 4.37 ERA on the season. Fernandez might have a poor record and high ERA but he is still throwing the ball pretty damn well. Fernandez is averaging under a hit per inning and well over a strikeout per inning so you know his stuff is good he’s just having a little control issues right now allowing 10 walks over his last 3 starts.

Miami Marlins Trends

Marlins are 28-13 in Fernandezs last 41 starts.
Marlins are 4-0 in their last 4 overall.

Conclusion

I like the Miami Marlins over the Dodgers again today. The Marlins offense is really starting to heat up especially Stanton who can win games all by himself plus they have a pitcher with great stuff on the mound so I think they are definitely the best underdog on the board today.
