MLB Pick: LA Angels at Toronto Blue Jays

The LA Angels are in Toronto again today for game two of their three game series with the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays took the first game fairly easily winning 7-2 and that’s kind of been the trend in this series of late as the Jays have now won the last 5 straight meetings.

Head to Head Trends

Angels are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings.
Over is 18-7-1 in the last 26 meetings.

Toronto Blue Jays (-160)

The Toronto Blue Jays are tied for 1st place in the American League East with the Boston Red Sox. The Blue Jays got off to a bit of a slow start this season but since about the middle of May they have been one of the best teams in baseball.

The Blue Jays are known for their offense and crushing homeruns but what a lot of people might not realize is that the Jays have the best pitching staff in the American League with just a 3.71 ERA which is kind of surprising even to a Blue Jays fan like myself.

Starting for the Jays tonight is Marco Estrada who is 7-5 with a 3.20 ERA on the season. Marco has been outstanding for the Blue Jays this season even if his record don’t really show it but he has a lot of no decisions from the Jays bullpen blowing leads.

Estrada actually set a major lead record earlier this season by going 13 straight starts pitching a minimum of 6 innings while allowing 5 hits or less which is quite impressive considering the old record was 11 games and that stood for over 100 years.

Toronto Blue Jays Trends

Blue Jays are 19-7 in their last 26 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
Blue Jays are 10-4 in Estradas last 14 starts.

LA Angels (+150)

The LA Angels are last in the American League West 21 games under .500 and 20.5 games out of 1st place. This has not been a very good season for the Angels they are kind of a weak team in general but they have just been killed by injuries this season.

On the hill for the Angels in this one is Matt Shoemaker who is 7-13 with a 4.14 ERA on the season. Shoemaker had a stretch earlier in the season for about a month or so in which he looked like the reincarnation of Cy Young but that didn’t last and he’s back looking like a not too special average pitcher again.

LA Angels Trends

Angels are 7-22 in their last 29 road games.
Angels are 7-15 in Shoemakers last 22 starts.

Betting Pick Conclusion

I like the Toronto Blue Jays over the Angels again tonight. The Blue Jays are obviously the better team in general but I also like to fade teams late in the season who are having major injury problems like the Angels are having right now.
