MLB Pick: Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays

Overview

The Baltimore Orioles look to avoid the sweep today in Toronto as they take on the Blue Jays in the final game of a three game series. The Blue Jays took the first two game of this series outscoring the Orioles 15-6.

Head to Head Trends

Orioles are 4-10 in Tillmans last 14 starts vs. Blue Jays.
Orioles are 22-55 in the last 77 meetings in Toronto.

Toronto Blue Jays (-160)

The Toronto Blue Jays are 1st in the American League East a half game up on the Baltimore Orioles. The Blue Jays got off to a bit of a slow start this season especially with the bats but they have been one of the best teams in all of baseball since about the middle of May. The Blue Jays  are averaging 4.96 runs per game on offense but they also have a very solid and underrated starting pitching staff who have a combined 3.72 ERA on the season.

Starting for the Blue Jays today is Aaron Sanchez who has quickly become the Ace of the staff. Sanchez is 11-1 with a 2.72 ERA on the season. Sanchez has allowed 3 or less runs in 17 of his 20 starts this season with 16 of those being qualified as quality starts.

Toronto Blue Jays Trends

Blue Jays are 48-23 in their last 71 home games vs. a team with a winning record.
Blue Jays are 6-1 in Sanchezs last 7 home starts.

Baltimore Orioles (+150)

The Baltimore Orioles are 2nd in the American League East just a half game back of the Blue Jays. It seemed like the Orioles have been in 1st place most of the season but it looks like they may have peaked too early as they have now lost 5 in a row and they have really cooled off with the bats over the past month or so scoring over 5 runs in a game just twice since the end of June.

On the hill for the Orioles in this one is Chris Tillman who is 14-3 with a 3.47 ERA on the season. Tillman is also having an impressive season but he has been hit hard by the Blue Jays over his career so I don’t expect a great game out of him today.

Baltimore Orioles Trends

Orioles are 1-7 in their last 8 road games.
Orioles are 11-2 in Tillmans last 13 starts with 4 days of rest.

Conclusion

I like the Toronto Blue Jays over the Orioles again today. The Blue Jays have played some great baseball of the past few months and I think they are one of if not the best team in the American League while the Orioles are starting to fade of late.
