2020 Travelers Championship Betting Preview

Golf Show Goes On as Tour Heads to Connecticut

Travelers Championship betting will go on as planned even though things looked bleak earlier in the week with a few golfers testing positive for the Coronavirus. Nonetheless, we descend on TPC River Highlands for the 3rd tourney since returning from the Covid pause.

Chez Reavie won this event a year ago and has great ROI at +10000 for a 2020 win. Bryson DeChambeau comes into Connecticut as the favorite at +900. DeChambeau has a 3rd place and an 8th place finish since the PGA restarted on June 11th at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Travelers Championship betting is going to be a star-studded event – let’s see who has the value:

Justin Thomas +1000

Things seem to be lining up nicely for Justin Thomas in Travelers Championship betting. Both Brooks Koepka and Webb Simpson have bowed out of this event due to Covid concerns. Thomas flirted with a sub 60 round last week (63 with two bogies) and TPC River Highlands is even shorter than Harbour Town. Jim Furyk shot a 58 at this course in 2016.
Pick: Top 5 Finish Thomas +250
Pick: Golfer head to head Thomas -130 over Jon Rahm

Winning Margin

The 2020 Traveler’s Championship has a field befitting a major aside from the absences of Koepka, Simpson, and Tiger Woods. Judging from last week’s RBC Heritage in which Saturday’s field combined to shoot a 223 under (best in tournament history) things should be tight atop the leaderboard all weekend. The tournament going to a playoff pays out at +300 but unless somebody absolutely goes off it’s hard seeing this one decided by much more than a stroke:
Pick: Winning Margin 1 Stroke +250

Abraham Ancer +2800

Simpson finished strong last week at Harbour Town, getting a birdie on 5 of his last 6 holes to edge Abraham Ancer by a single stroke. -21 should win a tourney so Ancer has to be a bit frustrated heading into Travelers Championship betting. Ancer now has a 14th at the Charles Schwab and a 2nd at RBC since the PGA restarted. It’s a tougher field this week, but Ancer is playing with confidence and also finished 8th here a year ago.
Pick: Abraham Ancer top 20 finish +130

There’s not much more Ancer could have done last weekend, shooting 21 under but finishing 2nd.

Marc Leishman +5000

There should be money to be made on Marc Leishman this weekend, if anything on just head to head matchups. Leishman missed the cut at the Charles Schwab since returning from Corona break and sat out last week’s RBC. If that return then break puts Leishman back in the right mindset you’re looking at a golfer that has a 1st and a 2nd place finish in his last four tourneys prior to Covid. Leishman also won this tournament back in 2012 so he knows the course.
Pick: 1st Round Matchup Leishman -125 over Scottie Scheffler

Bubba Watson +2500

Bubba Watson is kind of flying under the radar for the weekend in Connecticut considering he’s the 6th highest favorite to win. That may seem good in a tourney that has 9 of the top 10 players in the world teeing off but Watson has great value having won the Traveler’s in 2010, 2015, and 2018. Watson finished 7th in the Charles Schwab but had a horrible 3rd round 73 at the RBC last week to knock him to T52. Watson has been in the 60s in 7 of 8 rounds since the PGA restart.
Pick: Watson top 10 finish +280
