Wednesday September 2nd White Sox at Twins Betting Preview

AL Central is the Tightest Race in Baseball

September 2nd White Sox at Twins betting is shaping up to be another good one as the teams have traded wins and losses through the first two games of the series. Minnesota has the momentum after squeaking out a 3-2 win on Tuesday but Chicago flexed their muscles in an 8-5 victory on Monday.

The Sox would seem to have value at +140 for game three but Minnesota is a whopping -160 favorite with Jose Berrios (2-3, 4.75 ERA) on the hill. Chicago counters with Reynaldo Lopez (0-1, 9.00 ERA) making his third start since returning from the IL. The betting total is 9.5.

Chicago Offense Was Shuttered on Tuesday

The White Sox were surprisingly shutdown by Michael Pineda in game two, managing just seven hits and two runs. It was the first time Rick Renteria’s team was held under four runs in the last six and was a vast difference from Monday’s 8-5 win in which Chicago had 11 hits.

Chicago faces off against Berrios in September 2nd White Sox at Twins betting. The South Siders hit the Minnesota ace well in the season opener, scratching out 5ER in 4.0 IP but still ultimately fell 10-5. Chicago has a collective .246 average against Berrios, but James McCann has had success going 8-24 (.333) with 4 HR.

Reynaldo Lopez hasn’t been able to pitch into the 5th in any of his three starts yet this season as he returns from the injured list. The right-hander did go 4.0 his last time out vs. Kansas City, allowing just 2.0 ER while throwing 70 pitches. Lopez was 0-3 with a 9.60 ERA in three starts vs. Minnesota last season.

Luis Robert has played like an MVP candidate so far this season.

Twins Turning the Corner?

Minnesota looks to build on their 3-2 win on Tuesday powered by a 3-3 night from Nelson Cruz and a 2-4 game from Byron Buxton in his first game since August 19th. Buxton also robbed a home run which allowed the Twins to snap a 6-game losing streak.

Are the Twins out of the woods from their recent struggles? Minnesota has gone 13-4 at Target Field this year but Chicago is a great road team at 11-5 away from Guaranteed Rate Field. Cruz has gone 5-10 in his career against Lopez and the Twins have a collective .270 batting average against the Sox starter.

Berrios struggled a bit with his control last time out, walking four Cleveland batters but still allowing just 3ER. The right-hander had hoped to turn a corner following 6.0 IP of 1-hit ball vs. Milwaukee on August 20th. In two starts prior to the Brewers game, Berrios allowed 8ER in 9.1 IP, both times against the Royals.

September 2nd White Sox at Twins Betting Pick

Minnesota squeaked one out on Tuesday but it’s hard to look past their six game losing streak prior to that. Chicago’s offense was contained in game two, but Berrios hasn’t looked like his usual self in a majority of his starts lately. The line definitely favors a big Twins win, but the safest wager is another huge offensive outing.
