Saturday July 11th Sheffield United vs Chelsea Betting Pick

Not Bad Value on 3rd place Blues?

Heading into Sheffield United vs Chelse betting, The Blues are listed at -155. That wouldn’t seem like bad value for a Chelsea team that sits in 3rd place in the table and has gone 4-1 in the Premier League since the restart.

Sheffield is hard to gauge in this one as they are 2-2-2 since returning from the Coronavirus shutdown. The Blades are +450 if they pull off the upset in Sheffield United vs Chelsea betting (12:30PM ET, NBC). Sheffield is in a respectable 7th place in the table in their first year back in the Premier League since 2006/07. Even a draw at +275 would be considered a success for the Blades.

Chelsea Vulnerable on Saturday?

The Blues are on a nice run, having beaten Watford and Crystal Palace in the last two matches by a combined score of 6-2. Those are two of the bottom six teams in the EPL though. Chelsea has already shown their tendency to get complacent against lower tiered teams in a 2-3 defeat at 16th place West Ham last Wednesday.

Frank Lampard’s squad is also battling some injuries heading into Sheffield United vs Chelsea betting. Billy Gilmour is likely lost for the remainder of the season after hurting his knee Tuesday vs. Crystal Palace. N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic also missed the last match so Chelsea may be really thin at midfield on the road in this one.

Chelsea has still found plenty of ways to score as evidenced by their 3 goals in each of the last two matches. The Blues rank 4th in the league in goals scored (63) which is almost twice as many as Sheffield (35) has put in the net this season. Sheffield plays a much slower pace though as they have also let up the 3rd fewest scores this year.  The total is 2.5 here.

Lampard was playing the last time Chelsea visited Bramall Lane.

Sheffield Ready to Make Their Mark?

It’s a great opportunity for 7th place United to move towards a UEFA berth next season especially with 8th place Arsenal taking on rival Tottenham on Sunday. The Blades have run a gauntlet in their last 4 matches that includes a 1-2 loss to the Gunners, a 3-1 win over Tottenham, a 1-1 draw with Burnley, and a 1-0 win over Wolverton who they are trying to chase down for 6th place.

Don’t look for a lot of fireworks from United in Saturday’s match as they are going to load up on stopping the Chelsea attack. Jack O’Connell was called back up last Sunday vs. Burnley after suffering an injury prior to the restart. United has allowed a total of one goal since their key defender has gotten back in the lineup.

Sheffield United vs Chelsea Betting Pick

There’s a lot of injuries on the Chelsea side but it’s still a very talented squad. How will that attacking unit be able to manage the slower pace of Sheffield though? United wants to take this one down to the final minutes which looks good for a lower scoring game and maybe even 1-1.

Pick: Draw +275
Pick: Under 2.5
