NHL Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs at New Jersey Devils

Overview

The Toronto Maple Leafs look to put an end to their 10 game losing streak tonight in New Jersey when they take on the Devils. The Leafs have lost the last 3 meetings versus the Devils but they did win the 6 straight meetings before that so they have still them pretty good over the past few seasons.

Head to Head Trends

Home team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
Devils have won the last 3 meetings.

New Jersey Devils (-135)

The New Jersey Devils are 6th in the Metropolitan Division with 49 points 18 points out of 1st place and are more then likely going to miss the playoffs. They have been playing better of late though winning 4 of their last 5 games so it’s not impossible for them to make the playoffs but they would probably have to win 25 of their remaining 29 games so it would be highly unlikely. The Devils are middle of the road on defense allowing 2.7 goals per game but the thing that has really hurt the Devils this season has been their lack of offense averaging just 24.3 shots and 2.3 goals per game.

New Jersey Devils trends

Devils are 4-1 in their last 5 overall.
Devils are 7-23 in their last 30 Friday games.

Toronto Maple Leafs (+124)

The Toronto Maple Leafs are 7th in the Atlantic Division with 48 points a full 23 points behind the 1st place Tampa Bay Lightning. The Leafs have lost their last 10 straight games and if they lose tonight they will set a new franchise record for sucking. I was actually kind of surprised at that because the Leafs have sucked for a long time so I just took it for granted they had lost more then 10 games in a row before. I’m sorry for Leafs fans but I still find it funny that it was only about a month and a half ago everyone in Toronto were all excited about this Leafs team definitely making the playoffs and possibly being a legit contender for the Cup and now here we are in the beginning of February and they are basically done for the season lol.

Toronto Maple Leafs Trends

Maple Leafs are 3-18 in their last 21 overall.
Maple Leafs are 16-44 in their last 60 road games.

Conclusion

The Toronto Maple Leafs may really really suck hard but I think they can do the impossible and pull out a win tonight over the Devils. The Devils are not a very good team in general they are one of the lowest scoring teams in the league so if the Leafs can manage to score just a couple goals they should have a very good chance coming out of this one with a win.
