NHL Pick: Dallas Stars at Colorado Avalanche

Avalanche vs StarsOverview

The Dallas Stars visit the Pepsi Center in Colorado tonight where they take on division rivals the Colorado Avalanche. The Stars haven’t had much luck versus the Avalanche over the past few years losing 11 of the last 12 meetings overall including the last 8 in a row.

That is a super surprising stat considering the Stars are one of the best teams in the league this season and they have been pretty solid team over the last few years.

Head to Head Trends

Stars are 1-11 in the last 12 meetings.
Stars are 0-7 in the last 7 meetings in Colorado.

Colorado Avalanche (+125)

The Colorado Avalanche are 4th in the Central Division with 57 points 15 points out of 1st place. The Avalanche had a slow start to the season winning just 4 of their first 14 games but since then they have played well and are looking like the team from a couple years ago when they had that break out season.

The Avalanche are fairly decent on both sides of the puck averaging 2.70 goals per game on offense and 2.71 goals per game on defense. I think the Avalanche are a solid team in general but I kind of think they are primed for a “slump” and I think it may happen sooner than later.

Colorado Avalanche Trends

Avalanche are 6-2 in their last 8 home games.
Avalanche are 3-7 in their last 10 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game.

Dallas Stars (-135)

The Dallas Stars are 2nd in the Central Division with 69 points just 3 points back of the 1st place Chicago Blackhawks. The Stars were probably the best team in the league for the first few months of the season but they hit a cold stretch in January winning just 3 of 11 games.

It looks like the all star break came at the perfect time for the Stars as it let them regroup and kind of start again. The Stars won their first game post break and I think that will continue and they will be one of the hottest teams in the league over the next month or so.

Dallas Stars Trends

Stars are 20-8 in their last 28 vs. a team with a winning record.
Stars are 1-8 in their last 9 road games.

Conclusion

I like the Dallas Stars over the Avalanche in this one tonight. I think the Stars got their slump out of the way and I think they are back to being one of the best teams in the league again while the I think the Avalanche are headed in the other direction.
