NHL Pick: Colorado Avalanche at Nashville Predators

Calle JarnkrokOverview

The Colorado Avalanche visit the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Tuesday where they take on division rivals the Nashville Predators. Even though the Avalanche have won 5 of the last 8 meetings they have still struggled versus the Predators over the past 4 or 5 season winning just 6 of the last 20 meetings overall and they have also really struggled in Nashville winning just 2 of the last 9 meetings.

Head to Head Trends

Avalanche are 5-12 in the last 17 meetings.
Avalanche are 2-7 in the last 9 meetings in Nashville.

Nashville Predators (-177)

The Nashville Predators are 1st in the Central Division with 65 points and are just 3 points behind the Anaheim Ducks for top spot in the entire NHL. The Predators have been super consistent all season long they hadn’t actually lost more then 1 game in a row until the last 2 games before the All-Star break. The Predators have a pretty good offense averaging 3.0 goals per game but they’re main strength is their defense allowing just 2.3 goals per game which tied for the best defense in the league with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Nashville Predators Trends

Predators are 36-16 in their last 52 overall.
Predators are 22-4 in their last 26 home games.

Colorado Avalanche (+157)

The Colorado Avalanche are 5th in the Central Division with 50 points 15 points out of 1st place and just 4 points up on the last place Minnesota Wild so they really need to get going in the second half if they want to make the playoffs. This hasn’t been a very good season for the Avalanche especially after they’re great season last year when they finished 1st in the Central but they were also statistically the luckiest team in the league last season so I guess what goes up must come down. The Avalanche have struggled a bit on offense this season averaging 2.6 goals per game which just isn’t enough to get it done especially when your defense is allowing 2.9 goals per game.

Colorado Avalanche Trends

Avalanche are 8-21 in their last 29 road games.
Avalanche are 1-10 in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.

Conclusion

I like the Nashville Predators over the Avalanche in this one. The oddsmakers might have the Predators as fairly big favorite but they do have the best home record in the league at 18-3 and I think they are probably one of if not the best team in the NHL this season.
