NHL Pick: Chicago Blackhawks at Nashville Predators

Overview

The Chicago Blackhawks are in Nashville tonight where they take on Central Division rivals the Nashville Predators. The Blackhawks have played the Predators well over the past few seasons winning 7 of the last 9 meetings overall but are just 2-4 in the last 6 games played in Nashville.

Head to Head Trends

Home team is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings.
Blackhawks are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

Nashville Predators (-125)

The Nashville Predators are 5th in the Central Division with 33 points 11 points back of the 1st place Dallas Stars. The Predators started the season great winning 6 of their first 7 games but it’s been a struggle since then especially of late winning just 3 of their last 11 games. At the start of the season the Predators were scoring a lot of goals and they were getting great goaltending but now they’re like a whole different team all of a sudden not doing anything well.

Over their last 10 games the Predators are averaging just 2.00 goals per game on offense and allowing 3.10 goals per game on defense. The one good thing about the Predators is they do tend to play well at home where they have 8-3-2 record and a +0.85 goal differential.

Nashville Predators Trends

Predators are 3-8 in their last 11 overall.
Predators are 42-19 in their last 61 home games.

Chicago Blackhawks (+115)

The Chicago Blackhawks are 3rd in the Central Division with 34 points 10 points behind the 1st place Dallas Stars. The Blackhawks all similar to the Predators in the fact that they play great at home but are horrible on the road.

The Blackhawks average 2.79 goals per game on offense and 2.50 goals per game on defense overall but away from home it’s a totally different story. On the road the Blackhawks are averaging just 2.57 goals per game on offense and 3.21 goals per game on defense for a -0.64 goal differential.

Chicago Blackhawks Trends

Blackhawks are 4-9 in their last 13 road games.
Blackhawks are 3-7 in their last 10 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game.

Conclusion

I’m going with the Nashville Predators over the Blackhawks in this one. The Predators have struggled of late but they do tend to play well at home and I also like the fact that this is the second game of a back to back with the Blackhawks and with the Predators losing the first game there’s going to be a little extra motivation to get the win tonight.
