NHL Pick: Calgary Flames at Minnesota Wild

Overview

The Calgary Flames are in Minnesota Where they take on the Wild. The Wild have played the Flames well over the past few seasons winning 8 of the last 11 meetings overall which also includes 4 of the last 5 meetings played at home in Minnesota.

Head to Head Trends

Flames are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings.
Flames are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Minnesota.

Minnesota Wild (-175)

The Minnesota Wild are 4th in the Central Division with 91 points and even though the Wild are 5th in the Western Conference they are not guaranteed a playoff spot but with just 8 games remaining the odds are in their favor. The Wild have been one of the hottest teams in the league over the past couple months winning 22 of their last 28 games and what I find amazing is that goaltender Devon Dubnyk has started all 28 of those games and I guess what’s even more amazing is that he has allowed just 46 goals total over that period so I guess why not keep playing him it seems to be working.

Minnesota Wild Trends

Wild are 27-13 in their last 40 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
Wild are 22-6 in their last 28 overall.

Calgary Flames (+155)

The Calgary Flames are 4th in the Pacific Division with 87 points 1 point behind the LA Kings for the final playoff spot in the West so every game from here on out is super important for the Flames. I’d like to see the Flames make the playoffs but I really have my doubts. I think the Flames have been some what lucky for a lot of this season so I can see things not going their way over the last few weeks of the season and after losing 4 of their last 6 games it seems to have already started.

Calgary Flames Trends

Flames are 2-5 in their last 7 vs. Western Conference.
Flames are 2-7 in their last 9 Friday games.

Conclusion

I like the Minnesota Wild over the Flames in this one. The Wild have been playing some really good hockey over the past couple months plus they are at home where they have been one of the best teams in the league over the past few seasons and I also think the Flames might struggle down stretch so they might be good fade material in general.
