NHL Pick: Boston Bruins at St Louis Blues

Overview

The Boston Bruins are in St Louis where they take on the Blues. Being in opposite conferences the Bruins and Blues don’t meet up all that often just 20 times since 1998 and that’s probably a good thing for the Bruins as they have just 5 wins of those 20 games but I guess one bright spot for the Bruins would be that they have won 3 of the last 4 meetings played in St Louis.

Head to Head Trends

Bruins are 5-14-1 in the last 21 meetings.
Bruins are 3-1 in the last 4 meetings in St. Louis.

St Louis Blues (-190)

The St Louis Blues are 2nd in the Central Division with 78 points 6 points behind the 1st place Nashville Predators. I think the Blues are probably one of the best three teams in the league along with the Predators and Blackhawks which kind of sucks for all three as they are all in the same division. Actually I guess it kind of sucks more all the other teams in the division having to play all those games against the best 3 teams in the league. The Blues are the 4th highest scoring team in the NHL averaging 3.1 goals per game plus they are also the 4th best defensive team in the league allowing just 2.5 goals per game.

St Louis Blues Trends

Blues are 35-16 in their last 51 overall.
Blues are 41-11 in their last 52 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

Boston Bruins (+170)

The Boston Bruins are 4th in the Atlantic Division with 65 points just 1 point up on the Florida Panthers for the final playoff spot in the East. This has not been a typical season for the Bruins especially considering what we have been used to seeing from the Bruins over the past few seasons. As a Bruins fan I watch my fair share of Bruins games and even though I don’t think they are as strong as Bruins teams over the last few years they are still better then an 8th place team. Luck has not been on the Bruins side this season at all even just in the last 2 games both of which should have been wins by the Bruins ended up overtime losses due to some just crazy bad bounces. Luck usually evens out and I think the Bruins are due for some bounces to start going their way soon.

Boston Bruins Trends

Bruins are 0-5 in their last 5 overall.
Bruins are 47-23 in their last 70 games playing on 1 days rest.

Conclusion

Even though the Blues are one of the best teams in the league I’m going with the Boston Bruins in the one. After losing their last 5 straight games with the last 2 coming in overtime I think the Bruins are due to bust out of this slump in a big way and I think this is a pretty good spot to pick a big +170 underdog.
