MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox at Minnesota Twins

Overview

The Boston Red Sox are in Minnesota for the first game of a three game series versus the Twins. The Red Sox have kind of owned the Twins of late winning 7 of the last 9 meetings including 9 of the last 12 played in Minnesota.

This is however one of the better Twins teams we have seen in a while and it’s also one of the poorer Red Sox teams we’ve seen in a while so we might be in for a little bit of a turn around in how this series has been going over the past few seasons.

Head to Head Trends

Red Sox are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Red Sox are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Minnesota.

Minnesota Twins (+103)

The Minnesota Twins are 2nd in the American League Central 3 games back of the 1st place Kansas City Royals. The Twins got off to a slow start this season losing 6 of their first 7 games but they have been on fire since winning 24 of their last 36 games.

Starting for the Twins today is Ricky Nolasco who is 4-1 with a 6.00 ERA on the season. Nolasco hasn’t exactly pitched good this season but he keeps the Twins in the game and they give him a lot of run support so it may not be pretty but he’s gets it done.

Minnesota Twins Trends

Twins are 9-2 in their last 11 home games.
Twins are 4-0 in Nolascos last 4 starts.

Boston Red Sox (-113)

The Boston Red Sox are 3rd in the American League East 2.5 games out of 1st place. The Sox are just the opposite of the Twins they got off to a hot start winning 6 of their first 8 games but haven’t done a whole lot since.

On the mound for the Red Sox in this one is Joe Kelly who is 1-3 with a 5.13 ERA on the season. Kelly has been a little hit or miss so far this season he’s had several very good outings but he’s has just as many very bad outings so I guess we’ll have to wait and see what he does today.

Boston Red Sox Trends

Red Sox are 3-9 in their last 12 games following a win.
Red Sox are 3-8 in their last 11 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.

Conclusion

I like the Minnesota Twins over the Red Sox in this one. The Twins are 14-6 at home this season and they are one of the hottest teams in the league right now plus they are a small underdog so it’s hard to get any better then that.
