NHL Pick: Chicago Blackhawks at San Jose Sharks

Overview

The Chicago Blackhawks are on the west coast today where they play the San Jose Sharks. The Blackhawks have played the sharks fairly well over the past few seasons winning 7 of the last 11 meetings overall but they have struggled in San Jose where they have won just 1 of the last 7 games.

Head to Head Trends

Home team is 15-3 in the last 18 meetings.
Blackhawks are 1-6 in the last 7 meetings in San Jose.

San Jose Sharks (+100)

The San Jose Sharks are 5th in the Pacific Division with 76 points 3 points back of the LA Kings for the final playoff spot in the West but the Sharks do have an extra game played. After struggling for what seems like most of the season the Sharks are finally starting to play some decent hockey winning 4 of their last 5 games although it might just be too little too late. The Sharks are an all around average team they don’t do anything overly well averaging 2.8 goals per game on offense and allowing 2.8 goals per game on defense so their 34-34 record is right on the money.

San Jose Sharks Trends

Sharks are 4-1 in their last 5 overall.
Sharks are 3-9 in their last 12 home games.

Chicago Blackhawks (-120)

The Chicago Blackhawks are 3rd in the Central Division with 86 points and it looks like they are guaranteed to make the playoffs unless they have some what of an epic collapse over the last month and a half of the season. The Blackhawks are one of the stronger teams in the league but they haven’t been doing a whole lot of the past month or so playing just .500 hockey although a lot of their games have been going to overtime lately so they have failed to pick up at least a single point in just 3 of their last 16 games. The Blackhawks scoring has dropped off a bit now down to 2.9 goals per game but they still play great defense allowing just 2.3 goals per game.

Chicago Blackhawks Trends

Blackhawks are 4-1 in their last 5 road games.
Blackhawks are 19-8 in their last 27 games playing on 1 days rest.

Conclusion

I’m going to go with the Chicago Blackhawks over the Sharks in this one. I know the Sharks are playing pretty good right now and the Blackhawks are struggling to put pucks in the net but they are still the better team overall and I think they get it done today.
